Puppet Playtime June 2024

Puppet Playtime June 2024

Join us for Puppet Playtime!

Puppet Playtime gives children aged 3 to 5 the opportunity to engage in a new experience of storytelling and puppetry. Each session features a popular children’s book, with an acclaimed WA performer presenting the story in their unique performance style.  This can include puppetry, musical accompaniment, object theatre, movement and dance, and more. The world of puppetry is vast, and attendees will learn about a new element of puppetry each month. Each session, children will craft a puppet designed by our talented puppetry professionals.

This month’s feature story is The Heartbeat of the Land by Cathy Freeman and Coral Vass.

About The Heartbeat of the Land

Join young Cathy as she runs barefoot across the ancient land, hearing its rhythmic heartbeat. Filled with vibrant illustrations and Kuku Yalanji language, this book explores themes of resilience, climate change, and the beauty of Aboriginal culture. Discover the power of one small step and the seeds of change, inspiring kids to connect with nature and their own inner strength.

Spare Parts Puppet Theatre respectfully acknowledges the Whadjuk Noongar people as the traditional owners and custodians of the unceded land on which we work. As we tour our work across these vast lands, we pay our respect to all First Nations elders, past and present. We celebrate their continuing connection and contribution to culture, country and community, and thank all First Nations peoples for their wisdom in caring for the land, the sky, the rivers and the sea.
