Spare Parts Puppet Theatre accepts the invitation from the Uluru Statement from the Heart to walk with First Nations people to create a better future. As part of the journey toward reconciliation, we support the establishment of an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice enshrined in the Constitution, enabling the experiences, concerns and aspirations of First Nations people and communities to be heard by Parliament and Government.
At Spare Parts Puppet Theatre, we tell stories to open up conversations, hearts and minds to issues that affect us all. We believe the Voice will do the same thing. It will provide First Nations people the opportunity to tell their stories and for all Australians to reflect upon our past and to help shape a just, equitable and reconciled future.
We acknowledge and respect there are a diversity of views around the specific referendum proposal, including among First Nations people. We encourage our Spare Parts Puppet Theatre community to inform themselves, listen with open minds and hearts, and to make a personal, informed decision. We acknowledge that public discourse and media coverage is also not without impact, and our thoughts and support are with First Nations people and their communities at this time.
