Spare Parts Puppet Theatre is proud to announce its first major work for early childhood audiences with the world premiere of Reach for the Sky at Fremantle Town Hall. Designed for children aged 3 to 7 and their favourite adults, the show promises a joyful, immersive theatrical experience for the 2026 summer holidays (5 to 24 January).
Artistic Director of Spare Parts Puppet Theatre, Philip Mitchell, said the production reflects the company’s growing commitment to creating high-quality, impactful work for the youngest members of the community.
“Reach for the Sky is a joyful celebration of imagination. It invites our youngest audience members not just to watch, but to move, feel, and play as they discover all the places their imagination can take them,” he said.
Presented in partnership with the City of Fremantle and generously supported by Minderoo Foundation, the production marks an exciting new step in Spare Parts’ dedication to early childhood audiences.
The Fremantle season offers an opportunity to celebrate the company’s rich legacy in the city, where it has inspired generations of families and young audiences for over 45 years.
Philip said Fremantle Town Hall was the perfect setting.
“Fremantle Town Hall offers the freedom and flexibility this show needs, allowing us to transform the space into a safe, tactile play environment. Families will sit together on bouncy balls arranged around the performers, feeling part of the action from the very first moment.”
Reach for the Sky blends puppetry, clowning, music, and movement with immersive elements including bubble, smoke and mist effects, and a dramatic ball-drop moment. Two performers guide children on a wordless journey through emotional exploration, curiosity, and imaginative flight — from floating in a hot air balloon to diving deep under the sea.
The production is a natural evolution of the company’s Puppet Playtime program, supported by Minderoo Foundation and Healthway, which has brought the youngest Western Australians into the company’s creative spaces since 2023.
“Now those children and families have the opportunity to experience a full-scale production made especially for them,” Philip said.
Running at 40 minutes, Reach for the Sky is the ultimate summer holiday outing for children aged 3 to 7 and their favourite adults. Performances run Monday to Saturday from January 5 to 24 at Fremantle Town Hall, with two shows daily at 10am and 1pm (excluding Sundays).
