Masterclass 2026

WITH PETER HIGGIN

Immersive Principles, Audience Positioning and Worldbuilding

We are thrilled to announce a new week-long immersive Puppetry Masterclass, titled Immersive Principles, Audience Positioning and Worldbuilding. Our guest artist for 2026 is Peter Higgin, Founding Artistic Director of Punchdrunk Enrichment.

ABOUT

In this practice-led 5-day masterclass, hosted at All Saints’ College in Bull Creek, you’ll explore the core principles of immersive work, with a particular focus on audience positioning, spatial storytelling, and worldbuilding. Using the school site as both inspiration and canvas, you’ll work with found stories and the unique histories embedded within the space to transform ideas into living, participatory worlds.

MASTERCLASS PROGRAM

The five-day course will loosely be focused around the following areas of practice:

  • Immersive principles and how they operate in practice.
  • Audience positioning and the design of participatory experience.
  • Spatial storytelling and working with found spaces.
  • Worldbuilding with found stories and site histories.
  • Sharing and reflecting on immersive work with a live audience.

With all content delivered in an open, workshop-based setting, the week will provoke ongoing dialogue about creative practice, using the site of All Saints’ College as both a provocation and a playground for exploration. Participants will gain practical tools, shared language, and embodied learning to support the design of imaginative, audience-centred experiences rooted in storytelling, play, and meaningful participation.

The week will conclude with a sharing of work with students in the school, offering participants the opportunity to test ideas with a live audience and reflect on the experience of making immersive work in an educational setting.

Previous experience in immersive or theatre-based practice is welcome but not at all necessary.
