Puppets in the City Lights Up Perth

8 May, 2023

On Wednesday 12th April we were delighted to present Puppets in the City to our wonderful community, with close to 5000 people attending on the day!

The highlight of this free event was our giant String Symphony puppet, Leor, who came to life in Forrest Place, taking the audience on an unforgettable journey. The audience became the puppeteers, controlling the movements of the puppet through strings, dancing and creating a stunning visual spectacle.

Adding to the excitement were our three choose-your-own-adventure Puppet Trails that families could explore, leading them through the enchanting laneways and arcades of Perth. The trails involved following clues that ultimately led them to the various workshops, where imaginations were ignited, and wonderful puppets were created. We loved watching the amazing creations the children made at the workshops dancing their way around the city.

Puppets in the City participants had the following feedback to share:

“Our favourite part of the day was making a puppet at the King Street Arts Centre, then exploring the city with it, waving to all the children with maps that we encountered and encouraging them to make their own”.

This was an awesome activity, we absolutely loved it! The trail took us to places we had never been in town.”

“My boys 8 and 10 had an absolute ball. The giant puppet was fabulous, and they loved making their own puppets. Best school holiday activity so far!”

Puppets in the City was generously supported by the City of Perth and the State Government’s CBD Revitalisation Program.
